Last month we had the pleasure of hosting Phil Vassar at the Grizzly Rose for a fantastic show! After the show, we had a chance to ask Phil a few questions about his life and career as a musician. Here’s what we learned. Enjoy what he had to say in this Phil Vassar interview:

Who were your biggest influences as a musician?

So many to name, but some big ones were:

Billy Joel
Elton John
Merle Haggard
Johnny Cash

Where was the most memorable show you ever played and why?

I think the first time anyone plays the Opry it leaves a memorable mark on you. It’s such an honor to play there!

Why did you decide to become a musician?

Growing up I was constantly surrounded by music. My Dad was a musician and my mom and grandmother always had music playing in our home. It made a strong mark on me.

Which song is currently the most fun for you to perform live?

It really caries night to night based on the crowd. Some of our new ones like ‘Mississippi‘ and ‘Party People‘ really get the crowd going.

If you had to live in one state for the rest of your life besides the one you came from, where would you choose to live?

Tennessee has been my home for almost 30 years! I cannot imagine living anywhere else.
